Peppermint Twist

“More are men's ends marked than their lives before.
The setting sun, and music at the close,
As the last taste of sweets, is sweetest last,
Writ in remembrance more than things long past.

- William Shakespeare, Richard II, act 2, sc. 1, l. 11-4.

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   Ahhh - another Golden Oldie!

BONUS #1 - Peppermint Twist - Joey Dee and The Starliters, 1962

BONUS #2 - Peppermint Twist - Joey Dee, after 2003

"Peppermint Twist" is a song written by Joey Dee and Henry Glover, recorded and released by Joey Dee and the Starliters in 1961. Capitalizing on the Twist dance craze and the nightclub in which Dee performed ("The Peppermint Lounge"), the song hit number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in early 1962. The original recording of the song was considered too long for release on a 45 rpm single, so it was split into two parts. It was this first part, "Peppermint Twist (Part 1)", with a length of 2:03, which became the No. 1 hit; the mostly instrumental second half of the recording is rarely heard today.

"Peppermint Twist" replaced Chubby Checker's "The Twist," the song that sparked the Twist craze, at the number one position. A version by Bill Haley & His Comets was recorded for Armed Forces Radio in 1962, but was not released until 2000.

The lead singer in the Starliters' version is David Brigati, whose brother, Eddie Brigati, was a singer for the 1960s hit pop group, the (Young) Rascals...

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 04/25/19, 5:15 AM:

Good morning on a Thursday or perhaps we could even call it the eve of Friday. Gonna' be a summer in spring day here in North Florida, high of 90 in the blazing sun. It will also be noted for rising humidity after the wonderful dry days we've been having but, after all, this is Florida and it is the time of year when we all wilt and head inside around 11 am, staying out of the sun until after 5. So, as we start another day on our journey through earthly life, don't forget to start with a prayer of praise and thanks to our most gracious Father above for giving us another day to improve ourselves in his image. He loves us and wants us to live for Him and He also knows that is difficult to do in this crazy mixed world that is our temporary earthly home.

There is a solution and it's a simple one but not always so easy to stick to and it is this: open our hearts and let the Spirit enter and guide us to do the good things with a strong belief in He who made us. It's as simple as following the good side of free will with that open heart. And how can we show that spirit for all the world to see? Put on a smile, be helpful, honest and kind and keep our eyes on the prize that is salvation which awaits us if we accept it by living for it. It will work every time. Have a blessed day out there and Friday evening will be here before we know it.

     Thank you, Jimmy!
