(21 Feb 1952 - 14 Apr 2007)

Boyden High School (NC) Class of @ 1970

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   We continue to learn sad things as this day progresses.

  From John London (Warwick HS - '57) of VA - 04/16/07 - "Even more sad news.":

Carol -

I want to thank everyone the prayers and good wishes for my brother, Roger Challis.

Unfortunately Roger passed away early this morning.

As we all know, there are no guarantees in life and death for any of us, and none of us knows what the master plan involves.

We remain truly grateful that we had Roger for fifty-five years. And we shall continue to celebrate a life that brought so much joy to so many; a life that continues now on that higher plane of existence to which we all aspire.

Thanks, again - John London and the Challis family of Salisbury, NC

God bless you and keep you... my kind uncle!
I cannot wait until I can meet you again in heaven.
You were such a wonderful uncle to me! My heart is so sad that I will have to miss you as I finish God's plan here. I know you are in heaven holding grandpa's and your sisters' hands...God knew your heart………please tell my daddy and Glenn I miss them too.....and especially our sweet, sweet, Brenda!
I know that you loved Jesus!
I can remember, as if it were yesterday, your God-given and heavenly voice in church when I was a little girl.....just singing on that microphone about that lighthouse.......and I thank God for the lighthouse too Roger!

I am so happy that I had the opportunity to tell you I loved you once more on the phone.......I am sorry I could not be there in person.....I will miss you dearly!

And to the rest of our family and friends......remember always that we are each a unique instrument of God's work and plan.....sometimes that work is done in special places by some of His bravest children. I know that Roger was a brave child of God! We are all touching lives everywhere we go and most of the time we don't even realize that we did…we just have to follow that plan, with no matter to the fears and doubts of others. God’s plan is at work always……even when we do not understand it...God has blessed me with that knowledge!

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

All my love, Tammy

Dear Edith & Family, I was shocked to receive news of Roger's passing. It has been many years since we've seen each other, but I can still see the sweet handsome face of my childhood friend. He was a very special man & know you will all miss him. May our God give you peace at this sad time & may the realization that we will see each other again in Heaven comfort you all.
Love, prayers & sympathy,

I will miss Roger so much even though we did not see each other enough. I certainly appreciated how Roger could find the best in every bad situation. Roger has left a legacy that he always dreamed to do. I was honored to share in some of your last hours. I know he was in good hands with Cindy, Chris, Brian and Holly.
Thank you for loving my children so much. They have the best memories of you, ones of laughing and love.

We love you so much,
John, Lisa, Olivia, and Mallory Challis

Onward Christian Soldiers

Words by Sabine Baring Gould in Church Times, 1865.
Music (St. Gertrude) by Arthur S. Sullivan, 1871

Onward Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banner go!

Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!

2. At the sign of triumph
Satan's host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers,
On to victory!
Hell's foundation quiver
At the shout of praise;
Brothers, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!
Chorus:

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are treading
Where the saints have trod;
We are not divided;
All one body we
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.
Chorus:

4. Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, laud, and Honor,
Unto Christ the King;
This thro' countless ages
Men and angels sing.
Chorus:
