One Way or Another

“If I were asked to give what I consider the single most useful bit of advice for all humanity
it would be this: Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and when it comes, hold your head high,
look it squarely in eye and say, 'I will be bigger than you. You cannot defeat me.'”

- Ann Landers (Esther "Eppie" Pauline Friedman Lederer)
(04 July 1918 - 22 June 2002)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Just a friendly reminder that your income taxes must be filed tonight by midnight.  I do hope you have them finished or at least filed for an extension, because one way or another.....

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-P9FjArlxs - One Way or Another - Blondie, 1979

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Way_or_Another:

"One Way or Another" is a song by American New Wave band Blondie.

Written by Debbie Harry and Nigel Harrison for the band's third studio album, Parallel Lines (1978), the song was inspired by one of Harry's ex-girlfriends who stalked him after their break up.[1] The song was released as the fourth single in the US as the follow-up to "Heart of Glass". "One Way or Another" reached number twenty-four in the Billboard Hot 100. Although never officially released as a single in the United Kingdom, the song charted there in February 2013. Rolling Stone ranked the song #298 on its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[2]

The song was included on the US and Canadian versions of the band's first hits compilation, The Best of Blondie (1981), but not on international releases.

Blondie released a manipulated live version of the song (with the audience noise removed) as the theme for the 1999 US television series Snoops. This version was released in the US as a bonus track on the US Live version of their album Livid (Live).[3] The original un-edited live version was included on the European / non-US Livid version...[4]

REMINDER #1 - SPECIAL REQUEST:

From Malcolm Davis ('65) of VA - 04/09/13, 8:47 AM - "Special request concerning      Jamey (Douglas) Bacon ('66 - of VA)":

Dear Carol,

Because of your Typhoon newsletter, that has previously alerted all of your readers to Jamey's medical and fiscal needs in the past,
Polly Norris Davis - '65) and I have been helping Jamey and getting to know her more personally and seeing just how great her needs are. Thank you for making us aware.

It is now my request to ask for financial assistance from our classmates and your readers as we try to provide Jamey with improvements for her driveway so that she can maneuver her motorized wheelchair outdoors without getting stuck in the ground or thrown from her chair. Jamey wishes to fill in the center of the driveway and because of her home being located in Hilton, she must use brick to accomplish the project or it will not be approved.

I have measured the area and priced the brick paving stone. She will need 288 sq. feet of the brick and that will cost $655.44 retail at Lowe's. She will also need 3 yards of crushed stone and 1 yard of sand which I have not priced yet. I am seeking to have the Peninsula Baptist Summer Youth Work Camp take this on as a mission project in July. This could hold down the cost for labor if the city and the community will allow them to do the work. If not, we will need to purchase the labor from a contractor.

I have permission to set up an account at my church, Parkview Baptist Church, to receive any contributions and also to afford us sales tax exempt status when purchasing the materials from this account. An additional 5% discount will be afforded by using the church credit card when making the purchase. You may also deduct the contribution that you make on your income tax returns.

I am seeking contributions now to make this mission a reality. This is a real need. Jamey's quality of life would be enhanced by this improvement to her home and yard. She is an amputee and is completely dependent on her wheelchair for mobility.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this project is asked to make a check out to Parkview Baptist Church and mail it to Malcolm and Polly Davis at 118 Cindy Circle, Newport News, Va. 23602. I will turn the checks over to the church and keep everyone informed, through your news letter, of the running balance of the contributions received and their ultimate disposition. The names of those who contribute will be kept private and I am hoping that enough individuals will be willing to contribute at least $10.00 so we can raise enough to complete the job even if we have to hire a contractor to install the bricks. Please note on the check that this is for the "Jamey Bacon Mission Project."

Here are some pictures of the driveway in its present condition.

Thank you all for considering this request for assistance. Your participation will be a blessing for Jamey and she is grateful for your concern always.

Sincerely, Malcolm and Polly Davis

Saturday, April 13, 2013 - Yorktown, VA

OH, WOW! What fun! Thank you so much for sharing these images with us, Malcolm!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 04/13/13 - "It won't be long and we will be home.":

A woman in a supermarket is following a grandfather and his badly behaved 3 year-old grandson. It's obvious to her that he has his hands full with the child screaming for candy, cookies, you name it.

Meanwhile, Grandpa is working his way around, saying in a controlled voice, "Easy, William, we won't be long . . . easy, boy."

Another outburst and she hears the grandpa calmly say, "It's okay, William, just a couple more minutes and we'll be out of here. Hang in there, boy"

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart and Grandpa says again in a controlled voice, "William, William, relax buddy, don't get upset. We'll be home in five minutes, stay cool, William."

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car.

She says to the elderly man, "It's none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying 'things would be okay.' William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa."

"Thanks," said the grandpa, "but I'm William. The little brat's name is Kevin."

      Thank you, Dools!

From the Most Talented Boy in the Class of 1954, Jack Nelson of Northern VA - 04/14/13 - "ICE CREAM, THE NEXT GENERATION...":

Here's another great submission from Polly (English) Greene ('54).

In our high school days we thought High's Ice Cream was the epitome of excellent ice cream. Then came Friendly's, Baskin-Robbins, Häagen-Dazs, Ben & Jerry's, Hershey Creamery Company' and a host of other ice cream companies you likely can name as your favorite.

Now, comes
I Cream out of Chicago. It probably won't be long before you will see it in your area...

Ice Cream, The Next Generation...

Ice Cream lovers will enjoy this one. Even if you don't like ice cream, this is an interesting new concept for ice cream.

A perfect example of what can be done with some chemistry background, ingenuity, and desire as well as being an attractive female and the result — a solid success. Amazing entrepreneurship.

From My Friend, Alice of AZ - 04/14/13 - "Stain Remover":

Stain Remover

2 parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 part Dawn (original blue) will take the stains out of almost ANYTHING...even if they're old stains!

Mix in a spray bottle and use as a stain remover spray.

COOL BEANS! Thanks so much, Alice!

From My Friend, Evelyn Dudzinski Griffis (Mars Hill HS, PA - '75) of NY - 04/14/13 - "Orange Candle":

  Orange Candle

So clever! Just take an orange/lemon/grapefruit, cut in half, eat the middle portion, leave the center core-like stem intact. Pour a kitchen oil (vegetable oil, olive oil, etc.) into orange just below the top of the stem. Light stem. It will burn for hours and smell amazing.

   OOOH! Thank you, Evelyn!

  AMEN! Thanks so much, Susan!

One Way or Another

Written by Debbie Harry (b. 01 July 1945) and Nigel Harrison (b. 24 Apr 1951)

Recorded by Blondie, 1979

One way or another I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I'm gonna win ya
I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I'm gonna see ya
I'm gonna meetcha meetcha meetcha meetcha
One day, maybe next week
I'm gonna meetcha, I'm gonna meetcha, I'll meetcha
I will drive past your house
And if the lights are all down
I'll see who's around

One way or another I'm gonna find ya
I'm gonna getcha getcha getcha getcha
One way or another I'm gonna win ya
I'll getcha, I'll getcha
One way or another I'm gonna see ya
I'm gonna meetcha meetcha meetcha meetcha
One day, maybe next week
I'm gonna meetcha, I'll meetcha

And if the lights are all out
I'll follow your bus downtown
See who's hanging out

One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna give you the slip, a slip of the lip or another
I'm gonna lose ya, I'm gonna trick ya
One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna trick ya trick ya trick ya trick ya
One way or another I'm gonna lose ya
I'm gonna give you the slip

I'll walk down the mall
Stand over by the wall
Where I can see it all
Find out who ya call
Lead you to the supermarket checkout
Some specials and rat food, get lost in the crowd

One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha getcha
getcha getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)
One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha getcha
getcha getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)
One way or another I'm gonna getcha, I'll getcha, I'll getcha getcha
getcha getcha
(Where I can see it all, find out who ya call)
