SPECIAL REQUEST:

    From the Most Athletic Boy in the Class of 1954, Mickey Marcella of VA - 04/10/18:

Recently, Joey Lawrence (Hampton HS - '54), who was a stellar athlete for his school and his community, passed away. Having experienced severe financial reverses, Joey died without leaving funds to pay for his final expenses, which just should not be. His friends are seeking to take care of them for him, as they know he would have done for them. If you find it in your heart to help, and if you can spread this word to others, please send whatever you can for Joey to Mickey Marcella, 294 Sanlin Drive, Newport News, VA 23602.

If you have any questions, please call me at 757-249-3800, or you may call Bud Porter (Hampton HS - '58), who is collecting from his Hampton schoolmates, at 757-722-2000. Thank you.

Liberty Song

Words by John Dickison *, 1778
Tune - "Heart of Oak"

Come, join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
And rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call;
No tyrannous acts shall suppress your just claim,
Or stain with dishonor America's name.

Chorus
In Freedom we're born and in Freedom we'll live.
Our purses are ready. Steady, friends, steady;
Not as slaves, but as Freemen our money we'll give.

Our worthy forefathers, let's give them a cheer,
To climates unknown did courageously steer;
Thro' oceans to deserts for Freedom they came,
And dying, bequeath'd us their freedom and fame.

Chorus

The tree their own hands had to Liberty rear'd,
They lived to behold growing strong and revered;
With transport they cried, Now our wishes we gain,
For our children shall gather the fruits of our pain.

Chorus

Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all,
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall;
In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed,
For heaven approves of each generous deed.

Chorus

In Freedom we're born and in Freedom we'll live.
Our purses are ready. Steady, friends, steady;
Not as slaves, but as Freemen our money we'll give.
