   We have yet another sad edition of the NNHS Newsletter.

Eugene Thomas Hughes

NEWPORT NEWS - Eugene Thomas Hughes died from leukemia on April 4, 2007, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn. Born and raised in Newport News, Tom was the son of Eugene Francis Hughes and Dorothy Belch Hughes. He was a graduate of Newport News High School Class of 1956 and served in Air Force from 1957 until 1961. He first attended Christopher Newport College, where he was charter President of Alumni Association and charter President of Circle K Club. He earned his BA from the College of William and Mary Class of 1965. He also attended graduate Banking Programs at both University of Virginia and Southern Methodist University in Texas. Following a successful banking career in Virginia for over 20 years, Tom owned his own businesses from 1981 until he retired in 2001. He is lovingly remembered by his four daughters, Cynthia Hughes Davis of Dallas, Texas, Linda Anne Page of Crozier, Va., Amy Hughes Porter of Franklin, Tenn., and Elizabeth Hughes Thomas of Newport News, Va., his 10 grandchildren and his sister, Lee Hughes Wells of San Antonio, Texas. A graveside service for Tom will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va.

Our hearts are saddened by Tom's sudden departure from this life and our thoughts and prayers go out to Cindy, Anne, Amy, Elizabeth and Lee. May God's amazing grace give them the strength to weather this storm and again find joy. God loves them and so do we.
