Church Street, Norfolk, VA

On with the dance! let joy be unconfined;
No sleep till morn, when Youth and Pleasure meet
To chase the glowing hours with flying feet.

“Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.”

From My Niece, Shari, of VA - 04/02/18 - "Colors":

http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/psychological-properties-of-colours

http://www.arttherapyblog.com/online/color-psychology-psychologica-effects-of-colors/#.WsjSf9Twapp

Was out and about this weekend and a woman shared with me that she was distraught after a series of "terrible arguments", with her long time live in companion, and that they were going their separate ways. I was buying a tiny knick-knack, color red, that she was ringing up, and told me she loved it and said she almost bought it, since her living space was done primarily in red.

Colors play a big part in emotions. Red is known for passion, but also known to cause anger and heated speech. I asked her if by chance the arguing she mentioned started around the time she did her decor in red, after explaining I used to do make-over color readings, then went on to further explore colors and their effect, and her reply was, "actually, yes." *This is shared, not to gossip (no name included), so you and others in your home have colors that are known stimulate love, peace, harmony, healing and such.

It's not hokey thinking with colors. It's widely used in psychiatric and violent settings, like jails, treatment and addiction centers, where emotions can run high, and even some hospitals will purposely use colors to encourage healing.

OH, ABSOLUTELY! Thank you, Shari! Red being my favorite color, I use it in small quantities in the living room, office, and kitchen. The only time red predominates in any room is from the day after Thanksgiving to January 6, when the hearth room is completed converted from soothing beach tones of aqua, sage, and sand to wildly Christmas. I'm banking on the fact that a room so completely dominated by Santa Clauses and snowmen can only generate delight, rather than anger!

FINALLY:

From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 04/05/18:

My son crawled for the first time while I was away on business. I also missed his first steps. I was now afraid I would miss his first words. Each day, I called home and asked if he had spoken yet.

The answer was always "no" until one day my wife said, "Harry has something to say to you.... 'Daddy, daddy,'"

I heard it over the phone and I glowed with pride. My wife came back on the line and said, "You should come home as soon as possible."

"Why?" I asked.

"He was speaking to the dog."

Quarter to Three

SOME NOTES: Daddy "G" and the Church Street Five were from Norfolk, as was Gary Bonds.
Daddy "G" was Gene Barge, and the Church Street was, indeed the one in Norfolk.
Those songs and many others with the "Norfolk Sound" were produced and often written
by Frank Guida, who was Norfolk's version of Phil Spector.

- Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA - 03/08/05
WOWZERONI!  Thanks, Dave!

Written by
Gene Barge, Frank Guida (26 May 1922 - 19 May 2007), and Joseph Royster

Recorded by Gary U.S. Bonds (b. 06 June 1939), 1961

Don't you know that I danced, I danced till a quarter to three
With the help, last night, of Daddy G.
He was swingin' on the sax like a nobody could
And I was dancin' all over the room.
Oh, don't you know the people were dancin' like they were mad,
it was the swingin'est band they had, ever had.
It was the swingin'est song that could ever be,
It was a night with Daddy G.
Let me tell you now,
I never had it so good
Yeah, and I know you never could
Until you get hip with that jive
And take a band like the
Church Street Five.
Oh, don't you know that I danced,
I danced till a quarter to three
With the help last night of Daddy G.
Everybody was as happy as they could be
And they were swingin' with Daddy G.
Blow Daddy!
Let me tell you now,
I never had it so good
Yeah and I know you never could
Until you get hip with that jive
And take a band like the Church Street Five.
Oh, don't you know that I danced,
I danced till a quarter to three
With the help last night of Daddy G.
He was swingin' on the sax like a nobody could,
and I was dancin' all over the room
Oh, don't you know the
Dance, do bee wa dah
Dance, do bee wah dah
You can dance, do bee wah dah,
You can dance, dance, dance
