   The sad news continues to arrive.  Nancy Houser Morris, Class of @ 1935, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 in Harrisonburg at the age of 92.

                   Nancy L. Houser Morris

  HARRISONBURG - Nancy Lucille Morris experienced the reality of the miracle of Easter in being welcomed into Heaven on April 1, 2010.

Lucille was born on Sept. 18, 1917 in Richmond, Va., to Samuel William Houser and Mamie Newland Houser. She was youngest of four children; Samuel, Mary, and Bennie.

She attended grammar school at the Jackson School in Newport News and graduated from Newport News High School where she sang in the Glee Club beginning her freshman year.
Lucille worked at Langley Air Force Base for 25 years; one year in supply and 24 years as an Administrative Assistant to the Base Chaplain. She was married on Jan. 1, 1937, in the church parlor of First Presbyterian Church, Newport News to William Clay Morris of Charlottesville, Va., a model maker for NASA at Langley Air Force Base.

She sang in the Newport News Operatic Society, and in Newport News Presbyterian Church choir for 30 years, 25 years in the choir of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, and four years in First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg. She taught Sunday School and served as an Elder of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church.

Lucille moved to Sunnyside Retirement Community in 1988, living in the Highlands. She was the Founding Director of Sunnyside Singers and held the position for 10 years; leading the Singers in programs at Sunnyside and throughout the community.

She is survived by a son, Dr. William Samuel Morris, and wife, Pat, of Kilmarnock, Va.; a daughter, Patricia Funston of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Lucille donated her body to the Anatomical Society of Virginia.

Dear Bill and Pat,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Aunt Lucille was such a sweet, sweet spirit. I have such fond memories of visiting with Uncle Bill and your mom, Aunt Mary and Sam. Please accept our prayer of thanksgiving on her entrance to be with our Heavenly Father. Take care.
