03/30/18 - NNHS Newsletter - Good Friday

“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they
crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other
on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not
what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

- Luke 23: 33-34 (KJV)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

We try to observe this day every year; somehow things often seem to interfere with that plan...

The midi file for the hymn on today's Holiday Edition (assuming you are still able to hear midi files; I myself am not) was sequenced by one of our own,   the late Al Simms ('60), and appears elsewhere on the site here:

From My Friend, Susan, of NC - 03/29/15:

“Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other.”

At Calvary

Words by William R. Newell, 1895
(22 May 1868 - 01 Apr 1956)

Music by Daniel B. Towner
(05 Apr 1850 - 03 Oct 1919)

Years I spent in vanity and pride,
Caring not my Lord was crucified
Knowing not it was for me He died
On Calvary...

Chorus
Mercy there was great and grace was free,
Pardon there was multiplied to me,
There my burdened soul found liberty
At Calvary

By God's Word at last my sin I learned,
Then I trembled at the law I'd spurned,
Till my guilty soul imploring turned,
To Calvary...

Now I've giv'n to Jesus ev'rything,
Now I gladly own Him as my King,
Now my raptured soul can only sing,
Of Calvary...

O the love that drew salvation's plan!
O the grace that brought it down to man!
O the mighty gulf that god did span
At Calvary...
