National Vietnam War Veterans Day

“Thank you for the sacrifices you and your families are making. Our Vietnam Veterans have taught us
that no matter what are positions may be on policy, as Americans and patriots,
we must support all of our soldiers with our thoughts and our prayers.”

Zach Wamp
(b. 28 Oct 1957)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
   It's time.

HOMEWORK:

From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Vietnam_War_Veterans_Day

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a US holiday observed annually on March 29. It recognizes veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam War. It should not be confused with Veterans Day.

On March 29, 2012, President Barack Obama proclaimed March 29, 2012, as Vietnam Veterans Day. The proclamation called "upon all Americans to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities that commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Vietnam War."[1]

On December 26, 2016 the Vietnam Veterans Day Coalition of States Council presented a letter to President Elect Donald Trump and Congressional leadership outlines the history and timeline of cause to establish March 29th as Vietnam War Veterans Day and request that it be one of the first legislations passed and signed into law during the 115 Congress.[2]

On March 28, 2017, President Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. This act officially recognizes March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The Act also includes the day among those days on which the US flag should especially be displayed.[3]

29 March 1973 was the date the last US combat troops departed the Republic of Vietnam and Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was disbanded. The last unit was elements of MACV's Infantry Security Force (Special Guard), actually special couriers.

To All,

I just wanted to let every one know that Sylvia had her last CT scan at Mayo today and it was all negative for lung cancer. It has been a long tough five years, but we survived. Our next visit will be one year for a check up. We owe a big thanks to the staff at Mayo and all the prayers from Palms and friends.

WOWZERONI! Thank you, Phil! What truly fabulous news!

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 03/28/19, 7:23 AM:

A sunrise anywhere is beautiful, but in this picture with the history of St. Augustine showing in the shadows, it sends a statement of both beauty and old challenges overcome by those explorers so long ago. I'm sure they never thought that not only would the land become a major force in the world, but also an English speaking nation.

     WOWZERS! Thank you, Jimmy!

Didn't I?
We Were Soldiers
, 2002)

Recorded by Montgomery Gentry, 2002
[Gerald Edward Montgomery (b. 30 Sept 1963) and Troy Lee Gentry (05 Apr 1967 – 08 Sept 2017)]

Didn't I make ya proud
Go and lay my life down
When you called my name
I thought I stood for somthin'
Was doin' the right thing
When I went away
Now bein' back should be so simple
But I keep gettin' these big signals
From everyone
Why do folks sit and judge me
Who ain't seen what I've seen
Or did what I done?

Didn't I burn
Didn't I bleed
Enough
For you?
I've faced your fears
Felt pain
So you won't have to
Yeah, didn't I do my best
And wasn't home here when I left?

I've seen boys fall to pieces
Grown men cry out for Jesus
Til they're black and blue
I thought God was on our side
Weren't we supposed to be the good guys
That would never lose?
Cuz' I don't see no ticker, tape
Or 5-mile parade sayin'
"Thank you, son."
Just folks that sit and judge me
Who ain't seen what I've seen
Or did what I done

Didn't I burn
Didn't I bleed
Enough
For you?
I've faced your fears
Felt pain
So you won't have to
Yeah, didn't I do my best
And wasn't home here when I left?
