03/27/19 - NNHS Newsletter - Hey There

The pain of love is the pain of being alive.
It is a perpetual wound.

Maureen Duffy
      (b. 21 Oct 1933)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's song is brought to you directly by Rosemary Clooney, who delights in singing it in my ear each night just as I'm trying to fall asleep. Thanks for the lullabies, Rosie - I think......

BONUS - Hey There - Rosemary Clooney

"Hey There" is a show tune from the musical play The Pajama Game, written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. It was published in 1954.

It was subsequently recorded by a number of artists. The recording by Rosemary Clooney reached #1 on Billboard's chart in 1954. Another version was also recorded about the same time by Sammy Davis, Jr., reaching #16 on Billboard's retail chart. The song (counting all recorded versions) also reached #1 on the Cash Box chart in 1954.

In the context of the show, Sid sings it to a recording device, telling himself that he's foolish to continue his advances to Babe. He plays the tape back, and after responding to his own comments, sings a duet with himself.

   Thank you, Joan!

From Jimmy Dick ('65) of FL - 03/27/19, 6:33 AM:

It looks like the supposed nor'easter really didn't pan out but we did get a few thunderboomer shudders around here. It is supposed to soon clear and be breezy in the mid-60's. So a little bit chilly and if you are riding Clyde the Camel this morning to celebrate Hump Day, remember he is a large profile so be careful in the wind.

But seriously, with Hump Day comes the top of the work mountain before we start the slow slide down to Friday. Time is zipping along. Make the most of it before it is gone so that you will be happy and satisfied with what you have done. And with God at your side, the ride will be a very worthwhile one, actually in the end it will be downright heavenly. Have a blessed Hump Day, everyone.

     Thank you, Jimmy!

BONUS CLOUD CROCHET PATTERNS ("You on that high-flying cloud"):

Annaboo's Crochet Cloud

Fluffy Clouds Infinity Scarf - "Hello Everyone! I actually created this pattern for my mom to give to her on her birthday. She loves to wear scarves and is pretty simplistic when it comes to winter accessories. She rarely buys anything for herself, and is such a giving and caring person (raising 7 kids!). I wanted to create something that she could wear with any color. At the moment, the color coat she wears is purple. I had a really hard time finding a color that matched her coat. I decided on this color from Lion Brand Thick & Quick called Fisherman. It is such a beautiful neutral color, and the yarn is so nice to work with. This scarf truly does work up quickly. I believe I finished it in a little over two hours!"

PEACOCKS (because one can never have too many peacocks):
Crocheted Peacock Blanket - "Strut your stuff with this beautiful Peacock Crochet Blanket Pattern."

BONUS CLOUD KNIT PATTERN ("You on that high-flying cloud"):

How to Knit a Cloud Shape - "Today, we are going to knit a cloud shape! This is a perfect knitted embellishment to place on journals, t-shirts, jackets, purses and more... "

BONUS CLOUD RECIPES ("You on that high-flying cloud"):

Pink Cloud - "A fluffy cloud of whipped topping, raspberry gelatin, cottage cheese, and pineapple is perfect any day of the year."

Cherry-Berries on a Cloud - "A 'cloud' of meringue is heavenly when filled with a cream cheese blend and colorful, sweet-tart fruit."

Hey There

Words and Music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross for "The Pajama Game"

Recorded by Rosemary Clooney, 1954

Hey there
You with the stars in your eyes
Love's never made a fool of you
You used to be too wise.

Hey there
You on that high-flying cloud
Though he won't throw a crumb to you
You think someday he'll come to you.

Better forget him
Him with his nose in the air
He's got you dancing on a string
Break it and he won't care

Won't you take this advice
I hand you like a mother
Or are you not seeing things too clear?
Are you too much in love to hear?
Is it all going in one ear
And out the other?

(repeat last verse)

Hey There! Hey There!
Hey There!.......
