Lover, Come Back to Me

“They say that time heals all wounds but all it’s done so far
is give me more time to think about how much I miss you.”

 - Ezbeth Wilder

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Today's Newsletter theme is brought to you once more by My Magic Shower.  Having not heard it sing to me since we moved away from Fayetteville in January, I was afraid it was but one of many things which I had to leave behind in North Carolina.  Imagine my astonishment yesterday when this 81-year old song came falling out of the shower head along with the nice warm water!

Aw, c'mon - I toldja you had to be crazy to do what I do, didn't I?!?

None of these versions is anything like unto the one My Magic Shower was singing to me, though.  It was a slow, low, mournful arrangement, sort of Julie London style.....

BONUS #1 - - Lover, Come Back to Me - Grace Moore, 1931

From the Head Flagtwirler of 1965, Janice McCain Rose of VA - 03/24/09, 10:07 PM - "Fred...3 good days in a row!":

Much more progress today....he walked farther down the ICU hallway....physical therapist is now working with him to help build up his strength....the insulin drip was stopped because his levels were now in the correct range.
He now only has 2 meds going into his IV...and the feeding tube...he is still on oxygen...but they are slowly weaning him off that.
He will have either a sonogram or ultrasound done's x-rays showed something around the stomach area and they want to make sure what it is.  He is retaining fluid....his right foot was very swollen today....but the fluid retention will be better when he is up and out of the bed more.
They are adding more proteins to his feeding help build him up again.
He also still gets 4 nebulizer treatments a day.
No fever today.....and minimal IS productive coughing.
Let's pray that he can have 4 good days in a row.
Love to all my friends.....and thanks for your notes and emails of encouragement...I am sharing them with Fred daily.

SUPER-DE-DUPER! Thanks so much, Janice! We're still praying!

Dear Miss Typhoon,
Once again, thank you for the great job you do with your news letter.  One of the big days is coming up again on April 15,  number 66.  I just wanted to reach 65, but I'm looking at 65 +1.  Wow!!  I'll try to send you a current picture when I get back to Michigan from Florida sometime in April.
It was good to see pictures of   Ed Harris (President of the 1960 Student Body - of VA) and    David Biggs ('62 - of VA), both high school friends, yet I was sorry to hear about David's mother.
Hope you and your family are well and enjoying life.

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 03/24/09 - "You've Been Drinking Again":

You've Been Drinking Again

An Irishman had been drinking at a pub all night. The bartender finally said that the bar was closing. So, the Irishman stood up to leave fell flat on his face. He tried to stand one more time; same result. He figured he'll crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that will sober him up. Once outside, he stood up and fell on his face again, so he decided to crawl the four blocks home. Again, he fell flat on his face. He crawled through the door and into his bedroom. When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he managed to pull himself upright, but he quickly fell right into the bed and is sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

He was awakened the next morning to his wife standing over him, shouting, "SO YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING AGAIN!"

Putting on an innocent look, and intent on bluffing it out, he said, "What makes you say that?"

"The pub just called; you left your wheelchair there again."

   WILD GIGGLES!!! Thanks, Joyce!

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of VA - 03/24/09 - "Where would you be????":

WILDER GIGGLES!!! Thanks again, Joyce - there's a lot of truth to that!

Hi Carol!
Glad you are settling in to your new home!
After hearing me complain about my doctor getting on me about losing another 10 pounds my wife sent me the attached email for future excuses I can give him!
Have to admit I never thought of these and may use them next visit, when I know I will have probably gained another 10 pounds.
In case you need some newsletter filler sometime, I included the "Herman" comic attachments also!

Hope you enjoy them, and thanks again for keeping us in touch with our glory days.

Lover, Come Back to Me

Music by
Sigmund Romberg
(29 July 1887 - 09 Nov 1951)

Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
 (12 July 1895 - 23 Aug 1960)

- from The New Moon, 1928

You went away
I let you
We broke the ties that bind
I wanted to forget you
And leave the past behind
Still, the magic of the night I met you
Seems to stay forever in my mind

The sky was blue
And high above
The moon was new
And so was love
This eager heart of mine was singing
Lover, where can you be
You came at last
Love had its day
That day is past
You've gone away
This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover, come back to me

When I remember every little thing
You used to do
I'm so lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely
The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
And while I'm waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover, come back to me

When I remember every little thing
You used to do
I grow lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely
The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
And while I'm waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover, come back to me
