Baby Elephant Walk

“A camel makes an elephant feel like a jet plane.”

 - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
(28 July 1929 - 19 May 1994)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

What a happy, fun song this is!

BONUS - Baby Elephant Walk

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_Elephant_Walk:

"Baby Elephant Walk" is a tune written in 1961 by composer Henry Mancini, for the 1962 release of the movie Hatari! The composer combines brass instruments (including repeated blasts from the tuba) and woodwind elements to convey the sense of a toddler that is large and plodding, but nonetheless filled with the exuberance of youth. The catchy, jazzy simplicity of the tune has made it one of Mancini's most popular works, prompting its appearance on nearly twenty later compilation and best of/greatest hits albums. As the allmusic.com album review states, "if Hatari! is memorable for anything, it's for the incredibly goofy 'Baby Elephant Walk,' which has gone on to be musical shorthand for kookiness of any stripe. Get this tune in your head and it sticks."

REUNION NEWS:

From Lynn Walker Brothers ('65) of VA - 03/21/18, 2:16 PM - "NNHS '65 70th Birthday Celebration":

Dear Classmates:

The class of NNHS 1965 reunion committee is planning a belated "70" birthday celebration. The committee wanted to keep it simple and just provide a time and place to socialize, share old memories and make new ones. We have reserved an area at The Cove Restaurant in City Center in Newport News. The restaurant is located across the fountain from the Marriott Hotel where we held our 50-year reunion. There is a parking garage adjacent to the restaurant.

Our birthday celebration will be held on Saturday, June 9th from 6 to 9 pm. If you would like to order appetizers, dinner or drinks, you will order from their regular menu and run your own tab. There will be no admission cost for you to attend. The only cost would be the food and beverages that you choose to order. The committee needs a RSVP by May 1st in order to notify the restaurant of how large an area we would need to reserve. You can respond to Lynn Walker Brothers at brothersbc@msn.com, 757-595-4116 or Pauline Collins Shofner at pcshofner@verizon.net, 757-595-1965.

Let's come together and celebrate yet another milestone. We look forward to seeing everyone on June 9th!

SUPER-DE-DUPER! Thank you, Lynn - what wonderful news! From now until then, this information will appear in the DATES TO REMEMBER section at the bottom of every Newsletter, and is now appearing on the Reunion Page as well as the main page of the site.

I won't be able to join you, but y'all have fun!

From Bob Allen ('51) of VA - 03/21/18:

I am trying to locate Patti Parker (1954) NNHS and her sister, Tweetsie (Marilyn) Parker (1952) NNHS. I have gotten a lot of leads, but all are dead ends.

Someone told me Tweetsie is now Tweetsie Hankins in Raleigh, NC---?? Patti married Lloyd Dobbins, but someone told me they are divorced? Also living in Raleigh, NC area??

Hmm, I'm sorry, Bobby. I thought I was going to be more helpful than this.

Wait a minute - Lloyd Dobbins, the former WAVY-TV news anchor??

I did find this link involving an attorney in Winston-Salem named Patti Dobbins; I don't know if that'll be useful or not:
