Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

   There is still more sad news to report today.      Butch Morris, Class of 1967, husband of    Wilma Binder Morris ('67) of VA, and brother of Steve Morris ('68), passed away at home in Yorktown on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the age of 65.

   His father-in-law,  Sam Binder (30 Apr 1922 - 27 Sept 2011), predeceased him.

We see then every year in April at the Master Shipbuilder Dinner and Butch had been battling pancreatic cancer but was doing well the last time we saw them.

YORKTOWN - Charles R. "Butch" Morris, "Fatdog" 65, a lifelong peninsula resident, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 in his home.

A Master Shipbuilder with Newport News Shipbuilding, Dept. 038 for 47 years. He was a Non Destructive Testing Inspector. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.

Butch was an avid gardener and animal lover. He was especially fond of cats, adopting several from the shipyard over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho Wilson and Lucille Tolley Morris, and his father-in-law, Sam Binder.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Wilma Binder Morris; brother, Steve Morris and his wife, Sharon; mother-in-law, Ruby Binder; sister-in-law, Cindy Barrack and her husband, Gerry; and numerous other family, including two nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to H. P. Whitehurst for the many long hours spent caring for Fatdog. Also, a special acknowledgment is given to Dr. George Kannarkat and his staff for their special care during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, with Mr. Chris Arnold officiating.

Sorry to hear of Butch's passing. I always remember him to be upbeat and funny. Prayers to Wilma and the family.

I was very sad to hear about Butch, we were the typical kids on the street of 76th Street, playing, riding our bikes, competing with each other; that's how I'll remember "Butch". Wilma, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

It saddens me to hear of Butch's passing I knew Butch and his family as a kid and pray that God's Love and mercy be with Butch's family through this time of sorrow...Blessings!
