03/11/17 - NNHS Newsletter - Bonnie Kellswater

The English language brings out the best in the Irish. They court it like a beautiful woman. They make it bray
with donkey laughter. They hurl it at the sky like a paint pot full of rainbows, and then make it chant a dirge
for man's fate and man's follies that is as mournful as misty spring rain crying over the fallow earth.

- T. E. Kalem on Brendan Behan's 1958 play, Borstal Boy

From Lucy Southall Propst ('63) of VA - 03/10/17 - "     Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC":

I'm so concerned about your husband. I haven't seen anything on the NNHS site all 2017. I'm too old for social media. Please let all the alumni know.
We've all felt close due to your faithful work, and care about your family.

Lucy Southall Propst, '63

Thank you so much for your concern, Lucy! In this case it really was a case of "No news is good news," but come to think of it, according to our Prayer Roll, I must have posted some of it:

update of 01/01/17: SEE: 01/01/17; update of 01/02/17: SEE: 01/02/17; update of 01/03/17: SEE: 01/03/17; update of 01/13/17: SEE: 01/13/17; update of 01/19/17: SEE: 01/19/17;

I may not have mentioned that the hospital had arranged for a home nurse to visit once a week to assess and treat his wound and reapply his bandage and uniboot. That was a great blessing to us. His last such visit was on Tuesday, February 28, when he was dismissed from that service. He overdid it a bit the last couple of days, staying on his feet too long, so it flared up again last night and he had to settle down and take it easy today. It's a chronic condition and will continue to afflict him for the rest of his life to one degree or another; we just have to watch it carefully.

Generally speaking, though, now our main concern is the overwhelming medical expenses which accompanied it all.

From Marc Snyder ('65) of NC - 03/10/16:

Thanks, Marc! That makes much more sense!

From My Cousin, Cheryl White Wilson (James Blair HS / John Marshall HS - '64) of VA - 03/09/17:

Thanks, Cheryl!

Bonnie Kellswater

Here's a health to you, bonnie Kellswater
For it's there you'll find the pleasures of life
And it's there you'll find fishing and farming
And a bonnie wee girl for your wife.

On the hills and the glens and the valleys
Grows the softest of women so fine
And the flowers are all dripping with honey
There lives Martha, a true love of mine.

Bonnie Martha, you're the first girl I courted
You're the one put my heart in a snare
And if ever I should lose you to another
I will leave my Kellswater so fair.

For this one and that one may court her
But no other can take her from me
For I love her as I love my Kellswater
Like the primrose is loved by the bee.

Here's a health to you, bonnie Kellswater
For it's there you'll find the pleasures of life
And it's there you'll find fishing and farming
And a bonnie wee girl for your wife.
