03/09/14 - NNHS Newsletter - Crazy

Of course I'm crazy, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong."

- Robert Anton Wilson
(18 Jan 1932 - 11 Jan 2007)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I'm sure it comes as no great shock to you that I love this song - AND the wonderful ink blot video, which is - well, sorta crazy!

BONUS - Crazy - Gnarls Barkley, 2006

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_%28Gnarls_Barkley_song%29:

"Crazy" is the debut single by Gnarls Barkley, a musical collaboration between Danger Mouse and CeeLo Green, taken from their 2006 debut album St. Elsewhere. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand and other countries.

The song was leaked in late 2005, months before its regular release, and consequently received massive airplay on BBC Radio 1 in the United Kingdom, most notably by radio DJ Zane Lowe, who also used the song in television commercials for his show.[1] When it was finally released in March 2006, it became the first single to top the UK Singles Chart on download sales alone. The song remained at the top of the British charts for nine weeks (which no other song had achieved in over ten years, and was only surpassed by Rihanna's "Umbrella" in July 2007) before the band and their record company decided to remove the single from music stores in the country so people would "remember the song fondly and not get sick of it."[2] In spite of this deletion, the song became best-selling single of 2006 in the UK.[3] Due to continued download sales, it reached a million sales in January 2011.

The song won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2007, and was also nominated for The Record of the Year in the United Kingdom, which it lost to "Patience" by Take That.[4] It was also nominated and further won a 2006 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song. The song was also named the best song of 2006 by Rolling Stone[5] and by the Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop critics poll.[6] The song was listed at #11 on Pitchfork Media's top 500 songs of the 2000s. The song is also in the #45 place in the list of the best songs ever of Acclaimed Music. In 2010, it was placed at #100 in the "updated" version of Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and ranked at the top position of Rolling Stone's top 100 songs of the decade (2000–2009). "Crazy" was notably performed at the 2006 MTV Movie Awards, with the band members dressed as various Star Wars characters...[7][8]

Thank you so very much, Gentlemen!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 03/08/14 - "Someone has written these beautiful words":

Someone has written these beautiful words.

They are like the Ten Commandments to follow in life all of the time!

1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout our journey.

2. So why is a car's WINDSHIELD so large and the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.

3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write.

4. All things in life are temporary. If they're going well, enjoy them... they will not last forever. If they're going wrong, don't worry... they can't last long either.

5. Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, friend, it's just a bend, not the end!"

7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied, "Yes, losing your vision!"

9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES... it takes away today's PEACE.

If you really enjoy this, please pass on to others. It may just brighten someone's day... Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly, and Leave the rest to God. AMEN!

   Thank you, Haul Party!

    From Jimmy Smith ('62 / '63) of VA - 03/08/14 - "Golden Years?":

Several days ago as I left a meeting at a hotel, I desperately gave myself a personal TSA pat down. I was looking for my keys. They were not in my pockets. A quick search in the meeting room revealed nothing. Suddenly I realized I must have left them in the car. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot.

My husband has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the ignition. My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. His theory is that the car will be stolen.

As I burst through the door, I came to a terrifying conclusion. His theory was right. The parking lot was empty. I immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and assumed that it had been stolen.

Then I made the most difficult call of all, "Honey (I always call him honey in times like these)," I stammered, "I left my keys in the car and it's been stolen."

There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard his voice. "Are you kidding me," he barked, "I dropped you off!"

Embarrassed I said, "Well, come and get me."

He retorted, "I will as soon as I convince this cop I didn't steal your car."

     Thanks, Jimmy!

FINALLY:

From www.ajokeaday.com - 03/08/14:

A man awoke one evening to discover prowlers in his storage shed. He immediately called 911, and gave his address to report the prowlers and possible burglary.

The operator at the other end asked, "Are they in your house?"

He said they were not, only in his storage shed in back of the house. The operator said there were no cars available at that time.

He thanked the operator, hung up the phone and counted to 30 and called again. "I just called you about prowlers in my storage shed. Well, you do not have to worry, as I just shot them all dead!"

Within seconds there were three police cars, an ambulance, and a fire engine at the scene.

After capturing the prowlers red-handed, the policeman asked the caller, "I thought you said you had shot them all!"

The man answered, "I thought you said there were no police available!"

Crazy

Written by
Brian Burton (b. 29 July 1977)
Thomas Callaway (b. 30 May 1974)
Gian Franco Reverberi (b. 1934) and
Gian Piero Reverberi (b. 29 July 1939)

Recorded by Gnarls Barkley, 2006

I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind,
There was something so pleasant about that place . (Or phase)
Even your emotions had an echo in so much space.

And when you're out there, without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch.
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough:
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly (Or Probably)

And I hope that you are having the time of your life,
But think twice, that's my only advice.

Come on now who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha, bless your soul,

You really think you're in control!

Well,
I think you're crazy...
I think you're crazy...
I think you're crazy...
Just like me.

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb,
And all I remember is thinkin' I wanna be like them. hmhmhm

Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun,
And it's no coincidence I've come, mmm
And I can die when I'm done.

But maybe I'm crazy?
Maybe you're crazy?
Maybe we're crazy?
Probably!
