Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

   There is still more sad news this Friday.
Carolyn Beaulieu Hawkins, Class of 1953, sister of Paul Bauz ('65) of VA and of the late     Susan Bauz ('63) (19 Dec 1945 - 02 Nov 2014) and of the late Marie Bauz Holtgreve, passed away in Newport News on Thursday, March 05, 2015 at the age of 78.

                  Carolyn Beaulieu Hawkins

NEWPORT NEWS - Carolyn Beaulieu Hawkins, 78, died on March 5.

She was a native of New York City and came to Newport News in 1948 with her family. She was a proud graduate of Newport News High School in 1953 and of Christopher Newport University in 2000.

She is survived by her dear husband, V.A. (Slim) Hawkins; her adored children, Liz Barrows, Mary Wicks (John), and Ansell Hawkins (James Devlin); her beloved grandchildren, Erin, Carly, Amy, and Matt; and her loved and loving brother, Paul Henry Bauz (Sharon).

She gave her heart generously to family, friends, and community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels for 40 years, listening as a Stephen minister and Contact volunteer, and working in so many ways to improve the lives of all. She loved kayaking the James, walking the Noland Trail and spending quiet time at her mountain cabin. Her determination, from competing in the Senior Olympics to her love of learning, were an inspiration to all.

Dear Fuzzy, Liz, Mary, and Steve,
I was so sad to see that Carol had passed. I have so many memories of our families and all that we shared growing up. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I know your mom's love lives on in each of you. She was truly a great person.
Love to you all,

Carolyn was an inspiration to all of us at Meals on Wheels. A co worker to be admired and a very nice person indeed. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Shall We Gather at the River

Words and Music by Rev. Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

 Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Chorus

Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.

Chorus

Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

Chorus
