Entre Nous

“If we knew each other's secrets, what comforts we should find.

- John Churton Collins
(26 Mar 1848 - 25 Sept 1908)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Soooo, how old do you have to be when you consider a song from 1980 to be a "new" one?

BONUS - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sodthxK1z44 - Entre Nous - Rush, 1980

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entre_Nous_%28song%29:

Entre Nous ("Between Us" in French) is the fourth track on the 1980s album Permanent Waves by progressive rock band Rush. It was also released as a single. The only live performances of the song to date occurred during the 2007 leg of the tour to promote Snakes & Arrows, an album released on May 1 of that year. It was then featured on the live album released on April 15, 2008.

“A pivotal spiritual attribute is that of self-mastery—the strength to place reason over appetite. Self-mastery builds a strong conscience. And your conscience determines your moral responses in difficult, tempting, and trying situations.”

- Russell M. Nelson

   Thank you, Susan!

From Jimmy Walker ('62) of VA - 02/14/15 - "Information for the Letter":

Is there any Typhoon alumnus out there that likes to work on classic cars? I have a 1973 Ford Mustang Convertible that needs some engine work. It’s on my bucket list to get it going by June so I can cruise Buckroe Beach in style. If you have the time and knowledge call or text me at 757-788-9713 or email me at jimwkr@hotmail.com. Thanks.

COOL! Certainly, Jimmy! I'll keep running this until one of us hears from someone!

  "Anyone? Anyone?"

     From Me ('65) of NC - 02/26/15:

I'm muttering these words over and over to myself right now trying to incorporate them so I don't have a big tantrum.

I know most of y'all are more than tired of the snow by now, so I'll say this very softly.

On Tuesday we here in Fayetteville had a rare and beautiful snowfall of about 1-1/2". We were promised (some would say "threatened") that another 2" to 5" would fall last night.

I took no photographs, thinking that I'd wait until it was really, really pretty.

Yesterday all the snow melted - and none came during the night to replace it.

In the immortal words of one of the geekiest guys I've ever met, screeched repeatedly at the top of his lungs (and though it was over 50 years ago, I remember it still), "I've been rooked!"

“Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand - and melting like a snowflake. Let us use it before it is too late.”

- Marie Beynon Ray

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 02/21/15 - "Shadow Dancing":

Shadow Dancing. Don't pass this one up!!!

This is an amazing performance from the 2013 UK Royal Variety talent show. It left one of the judges speechless, and even Simon said it was one of the best performances he has ever seen.

From Ruth Ann Reece Horace ('67) of FL - 01/16/15 - "Old Age (#6 in a series of 9)":

Have a great Day. Laugh, and then sing “It's a Beautiful Day" even when it's not.

"Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many."

A man was pulled over for speeding.

The policeman walked up to the car and said to the driver, "Sir, did you know that you were going 60 miles an hour?"

The driver replied, "Officer, there is no way I could have been going 60 miles an hour!"

Entre Nous

Lyrics by Neil Peart (b. 12 Sept 1952)

Music composed by Alex Lifeson (b. 27 Aug 1953) and Geddy Lee (b. 29 July 1953)

Recorded by Rush, 1980

We are secrets to each other
Each one's life a novel
No-one else has read
Even joined in bonds of love
We're linked to one another
By such slender threads
We are planets to each other
Drifting in our orbits
To a brief eclipse
Each of us a world apart
Alone and yet together
Like two passing ships

Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
the differences we sometimes feared to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room
For you and I to grow

We are strangers to each other
Full of sliding panels
An illusion show
Acting well-rehearsed routines
Or playing from the heart?
It's hard for one to know

Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
the differences we sometimes feared to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room
For you and I to grow

We are islands to each other
Building hopeful bridges
On the troubled seas
Some are burned and swept away
Some we would not choose
But we're not always free

Just between us
I think it's time for us to recognize
the differences we sometimes feared to show
Just between us
I think it's time for us to realize
The spaces in between
Leave room
For you and I to grow
