From the Daily Press - 02/26/12:

             Alexander M. Nicol

HAMPTON - Alexander M. Nicol (Nick), 79, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012.

A longtime Hampton resident, he was the son of Alexander R. and Elsie Nicol, who preceded him in death. Alex was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty M. Nicol; a sister, Yvonne Morgan; and a great great-granddaughter, A'Layah Small.

He graduated from Newport News High School and took some college courses through the University of Virginia. Selling cars and anything to do with the car business were his life and passion. Every conversation would lead back to car sales. Alex was employed by Williams Honda as a salesman and manager for the majority of his career, even working into his 70's part-time until his heart condition prohibited him from continuing with what he loved. One of his Facebook friends posted that he proved car sales an honorable profession. In retirement, he was always at the dining room table on his laptop searching the Internet, listening to music, watching videos, and posting to Facebook. He was on Facebook before some of his adult children!

I'm so thankful I got to spend some time with him ~ Nick was a dear friend for many years; he always had a positive outlook on life, was the first to offer a friendly word ~ he loved his family and was so proud of them, and was a person of honor in business and life. He was an exceptional human being. My love to the family and all the many friends.

  Mr. Nicol was a kind and gracious Gentleman. He sold me my first Honda and the last 2 and he was someone I knew I could trust to be honest in every way. I will miss his quiet ways and good heart. I was blessed to have known him.

  Mr. Nick.....When I think of you, first thing that comes to mind is your smile. No matter what, you had that great big happy smile on your face, that made everyone else smile. You were a true gentleman, who was honest, very knowledgeable, comical, kind and most of all, determined not to let your health problems bring you down. You were a good man and I'm very happy to have known you and call you my friend. You will truly be missed. To Mr. Nick's Family....Our deepest sympathy on his passing. Although this is a sad time, it's also a time to celebrate the end of a very long and productive life. May you feel comfort knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and loved him.

Ark Refuge Ministry shares with you in the loss of your loved one. I knew Mr. Nick for many, many, years, and he always had much knowledge to share and was not afraid to question mine! He was a pleasure to work with and a great asset to Williams as well as Peninsula Honda. I will remember all his words of wisdom.
I will always remember his smile, and his love of lunch. He loved his work and his customers. He will truly be missed!

 O God, Our Help in Ages Past

Words by Isaac Watts, The Psalms of David, 1719 (based on Psalm 90)
(17 July 1674 - 25 Nov 1748)

Music, St. Anne, by
William Croft, 1708
(10 Dec 1678 - 14 Aug 1727)

1. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.

2. Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defense is sure.

3. Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

4. Thy Word commands our flesh to dust,
“Return, ye sons of men”:
All nations rose from earth at first,
And turn to earth again.

5. A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone;
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

6. The busy tribes of flesh and blood,
With all their lives and cares,
Are carried downwards by the flood,
And lost in foll’wing years.

7. Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the op’ning day.

8. Like flow’ry fields the nations stand
Pleased with the morning light;
The flow’rs beneath the mower’s hand
Lie with’ring ere ’tis night.

9. O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
