02/25/10 - NNHS Newsletter - The Final Countdown

“Life is all about timing... the unreachable
becomes reachable, the unavailable become
available, the unattainable... attainable.
Have the patience, wait it out.
It's all about timing.

- Stacey Charter

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

My #5 son,        Nathaniel (Harty - Hillsboro HS, IL - '97 - of IL), has about 496 bazillion songs (give or take) on his computer play list which is somehow connected to the television, so whenever we gather downstairs to play games, he turns it on to provide background music.  Whenever I hear something which catches my fancy, I make note of it.  This is another one of those songs - which is highly appropriate for us today, as everything is about to change drastically as we prepare to switch servers.

   Thanks, Nathaniel!

   Speaking of Nathaniel.....

REMINDER:

From Me ('65) of IL - 02/24/10 - "Site Server Switching Soon":

He and I will finally be switching servers in the next day or so (hopefully tonight!) as our present server agreement will expire on the 26th.  There will almost assuredly be some down time during this period.  We hope it will be as painless as possible for all concerned, and that we're up and running again shortly.

From Cheryl Mays Howard ('66) of VA - 02/24/10 - "God in us":

Thank you, Carol, for the quote in the (02/20/10) NNHS newsletter by Og Mandino:

“Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember that
no talent, no self-denial, no brains, no character, are required to set up in the fault-finding business. Nothing external
can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating
the menial forces of hate, jealously, and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower,
but any foolish child can pull it to pieces
.”

- Og Mandino
(12 Dec 1923 - 03 Sept 1996)

It was as if God had sent it at the right time to our daughter, Miriam.

God does work through us!
Thanks again

Peace & Blessing,
Cheryl

Thank you so much for letting me know, Cheryl! That's a subject that has always meant a great deal to me - I suppose because I myself am too easily deflated and must keep reminding myself to guard against such negative people. Mandino expressed it so beautifully, and I'm very glad it was able to speak to you and yours as it always has to me!

FINALLY:

From ArcaMax Jokes - 02/24/10:

Prize winner

A blonde goes into a restaurant and notices there's a "peel and win" sticker on her coffee cup. So she peels it off and starts screaming, "I've won a motorhome! I've won a motorhome!"

The waitress says, "That's impossible. The biggest prize is a free lunch."

But the blonde keeps on screaming, "I've won a motorhome! I've won a motorhome!"

Finally, the manager comes over and says, "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. You couldn't have possibly won a motorhome because we didn't have that as a prize!"

The blonde says, "No, it's not a mistake. I've won a motorhome!" And she hands the ticket to the manager and HE reads .

"W I N A B A G E L"

The Final Countdown

Written by Joey Tempest
(b. 19 Aug 1963)

Recorded by Europe, 1986

We're leaving together,
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back,
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown...
We're heading for Venus and still we stand tall
Cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all
With so many light years to go and things to be found
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so.
