Newport News High School Class of 1965

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I am very saddened this morning to present yet another Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter.
Andy Schaffer Peck, Class of 1965, passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on Sunday, February 20, 2008 at the age of 60.

From the Daily Press - 02/19/08:

                   Andy Schaffer Peck

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Andy Schaffer Peck's wish was for her family and friends to gather in a celebration of her life. While she just joined hands with the angels above on Feb. 17, 2008, her spirit, song and laughter will live long in the hearts of those who knew her well.

Andy, age 60, grew up in Hampton and graduated from Newport News High School in 1965. She attended Mt. Ida Junior College and the University of Miami, prior to a career as a travel agent for Warwick Travel. Andy was the daughter of Carolyn W. Schaffer and the late Robert H. Schaffer.

In 1989, Andy and her husband, Sid, daughter, Lindsay, and son, Bryan, embarked on a life's journey. New adventures included making homes in Jackson, Miss., Baton Rouge, La., Memphis, Tenn., and, most recently, Little Rock, Ark.

Fall of 1964

Come and join Andy's family as we celebrate this wonderful mom, wife, daughter and friend. Wear your brightest colors and be ready to share the memories of Andy's generous life at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at The Arbors at Port Warwick, 1100 William Styron Square South, Newport News, Va.

Sid, Lindsay and Bryan,
It saddens me to learn of Andy's passing. I haven't seen any of you since we all lived in Shore Park and had many evenings of the boys playing baseball, but smile when I do. Andy had such encouraging words after my back surgery and her smile always made the surroundings warm. My thoughts are with you.-

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. 2 Corinthians 1:3&4 is very comforting. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God". Faith in Jehovah God's promises can bring much needed comfort.

We are so sorry to hear about Andy's passing. Our sympathies to all of the family. We have many good memories of visits with Andy and family as neighbors and friends on Sandpiper Street. We also were happy that they were in Baton Rouge when Alan went to LSU. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Andy and I were friends from back in our old Hampton neighborhood. Her daddy cooked me my first "steak" at one of Andy's birthday parties. My condolences to her family.

Andy was one of the sweetest girls I ever met at NNHS. Although I have not seen her or Sidney since 1965, I am sure her sweetness and charm lasted throughout her life and was an influence on all those that surrounded her.

To the Schaffer and Peck Families,
It is always sad news to learn of the passing of any of our Typhoon clan but hearing of Andy's was especially difficult. She and I were classmates and neighbors.
She was a true pleasure to know and a gentle and kind person. A truly beautiful lady in every respect.
My very sincere condolences.

I remember that Andy was involved in a lot of the athletic programs available at the high school, yet try as I may, I cannot recall ever seeing her with a hair out of place, or being anything other than beautiful and graceful, gracious and poised, smiling and friendly and well-dressed at all times.

Our sincerest sympathies are extended to her family and friends.

Y'all take good care of each other!  TYPHOONS FOREVER!  We'll Always Have Buckroe!

                          Love to all, Carol
