02/18/18 - NNHS Newsletter - Ivory Tower
“Living in a tower, however secure it may feel, is hardly a social attribute.”
“I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to
have been only a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself
in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.”
- Sir Isaac Newton

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
The theme song for today's Newsletter was released in two very popular versions in 1956. I quickly memorized it and belted it out whenever possible - which, given the lyrics, must have sounded a bit strange, coming from a nine-year old.
While I was a big fan of Gale Storm as an actress, I personally vastly preferred Cathy Carr's rendition of the song. See what you think:
BONUS #1 - Ivory Tower - Cathy Carr, 1956
BONUS #2 - Ivory Tower - Gale Storm, 1956
"Ivory Tower" is a popular song written by Jack Fulton and Lois Steele. Popular versions by Cathy Carr and Gale Storm, and a rhythm & blues version by Otis Williams and the Charms all received major popularity in 1956. Carr's version reached #2 and Storm's #6 on the Billboard pop charts, while Williams' version reached #11 on Billboard's R&B chart.

BONUS IVORY KNIT PATTERN:
|Diane Moyer's Heavenly Ivory Throw - "There's nothing better than cuddling up in a blanket on the couch. This Heavenly Ivory Throw will be your slice of heaven once you take on this knit blanket pattern. With just enough detail to be visually appealing, this blanket knitting pattern is actually an easy knitting pattern. The simple design lets the soft chenille yarn take center stage. You won't be able to keep your hands off this knitted blanket, but why would you want to? Once you've followed this free knitting pattern and learned how to knit a blanket this soft, you'll never want to let it go."|
BONUS EGGPLANT IVORY RECIPE:
Michele Pesula Kuegler's Eggplant Parmesan Dip - "... I have made many different appetizer dishes using eggplant, includingEggplant Rolls, Eggplant Salsa, and Eggplant Stacks. For my newest dish, I wanted something that was a combination of all three. It would have Italian seasonings, marinara, gooey cheese, and be served as a dip with some sort of bread or chips. The conclusion that I reached was to make a dip that tasted a little like eggplant parmesan. I took a few liberties, such a sautéing the eggplant instead of breading and frying it and adding a layer of ricotta to the dish. The result was exactly what I had imagined: a hearty dip filled with great flavors and melted cheese."
FINALLY:From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 02/17/18:
An accountant was in a car traveling with a farmer client around his farm. They passed a large group of sheep and the farmer said, "You're pretty good with numbers, Keith. How many sheep do you reckon are in that paddock?"
The accountant looked at the sheep for a moment and said, "One thousand, eight hundred and thirty two."
The farmer was amazed. "Exactly right," he exclaimed. "How did you work that out so fast?"
"Easy," answered the accountant, "I counted the number of feet and divided by four."
