02/13/18 - NNHS Newsletter - Mardi Gras

It has been said that a Scotchman has not seen the world until he
has seen Edinburgh; and I think that I may say that an American has
not seen the United States until he as seen Mardi-Gras in New Orleans.

- Mark Twain, Letter to Pamela Moffett, March 1859
(30 Nov 1835 - 21 Apr 1910)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

From My Friend, Susan's Friend, Katie, of NC - 02/13/15:

I recognize that, on occasion, some of our most fervent prayers may seem to go unanswered. We wonder, Why? I know that feeling! I know the fears and tears of such moments. But I also know that our prayers are never ignored. Our faith is never unappreciated. I know that an all-wise Heavenly Fathers perspective is much broader than is ours. While we know of our mortal problems and pain, He knows of our immortal progress and potential. If we pray to know His will and submit ourselves to it with patience and courage, heavenly healing can take place in His own way and time.

From My Friend, Katie, of AL - 02/12/18:

It's easy to get caught up in what others think of you. I know; I heard some pretty mean things some people have been saying about me lately and I've been dwelling on them. I always feel that when these times come up, and they always do, we tend to replay EVERY mean thing people have said about us throughout the years. But in these times I try to remind myself that its no one else's job to make me feel good about myself. My worth is so much more than they see. Sometimes they are speaking out of pain, irritation, anger, sadness or frustration. It's not my job to figure them out; it's my job to keep rocking this life God has given me!

EXACTAMUNDO! Thank you, Katie Darlin'! You've grown wise beyond your tender years!

From Catherine Slusser Hudson ('64) of VA - 02/12/18:

Finally but he has good taste on phones

   Thanks, Catherine!

Get in the Spirit for Mardi Gras! - A plethora of yarn/color suggestions plus hidden patterns

Haley Wishon's Mardi Gras Masks - "Add a bit of mystery to your look with a beautifully crocheted Masquerade Fancy Mask. Each of these three masks is made with the same pattern using different embellishments to complete their allure."

Sara Sachs' Mardi Gras Cowl with Fleur de Lis Pin - "I totally love how this Cowl Pattern turned out. I love the deep shades of the yarn, and the texture of the yarn as well. I used Red Heart With Love to design the Mardi Gras Cowl with Fleur de Lis Pin. The yarn is soft, but has enough texture to hold it's shape."

Mardi Gras is right around the corner, and the colors that mark Fat Tuesday are starting to pop up everywhere. If you still want to show off some Mardi Gras spirit, there is plenty of time for quick-to-knit or crochet projects, striped with some of these great color combinations below: - See more at:

Knits for Mardi Gras - "I guess Mardi Gras isnt really a big crafting holiday, but at this point Ill take just about any excuse for a party. Ive knit a couple of Mardi Gras-themed projects in the past..."

From - 02/12/18:

The Sheriff's girl friend constantly asked the Sheriff to get married.

Girl: Please, marry me?
Sheriff: I can't. I have to go catch the bank robbers.

Girl: Please, marry me?
Sheriff: I can't. I have to go catch the rustlers.

Girl: Please, let's get married?
Sheriff: I can't I have to go catch those who held up the train.

Moral of the story: Some men would rather fight outlaws than in-laws!

Jambalaya (On the Bayou)

Written and recorded by Hank Williams
(17 Sept 1923 - I Jan 1953)

Goodbye Joe, me gotta go, me oh my oh
Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou
My Yvonne, the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have good fun on the bayou

Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a fillet gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma chez amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.

Instrumental Verse (Country Fiddle solo)

Thibodeaux, Fontainbleau, the place is buzzin'
Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen
Dress in style, go hog wild, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.

Instrumental Verse (Country Fiddle solo)

Jambalaya, a-crawfish pie and-a fillet gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma chez amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
