Abraham Lincoln's 205th Birthday

“Common looking people are the best in the world:
that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them.”

“I claim not to have controlled events, but confess plainly that events have controlled me.”

If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business.
I do the very best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right,
what's said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference.

- Abraham Lincoln
(12 Feb 1809 - 15 Apr 1865)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 02/11/14 - "Jesus Beautiful painting in Dallas":

The artist wrote: This is more than a spectacular piece of art. I believe it is a true representation of scriptural research and vision, divinely inspired. The Resurrection in my mind is the greatest event that this world has and will ever witness again. With deep humility and love, Don (Babe) DiMarco

Painting of Resurrection! Gorgeous!!! Incredible!!!

This beautiful 12' x 40' painting of the resurrection of Jesus will be displayed in a Dallas museum. It will be a blessing to you. It took the artist two years to paint. What an honor and joy this must have been to research and design. God was certainly touching his heart!

   WOWZERONI! Thank you, Haul Party!

From George Helliesen ('61) of MI - 02/11/14 - "Humor":

When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Paradise, God appeared and said, "I want the men to make two lines - one line for the men who were true heads of their household, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. I want all the women to report to St. Peter." Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men.

The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who truly were heads of their household, there was only one man.

God said to the long line, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves, I created you to be the head of your household! You have been disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose! Of all of you, only one obeyed. Learn from him."

God turned to the one man, "How did you manage to be the only one in this line?"

The man replied, "My wife told me to stand here."

     Thanks, George!

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 02/01/14 - "Dogs (#11 in a Series of 26)":

Happy New Year to dog lovers everywhere!

     HA-HA-HA! Thanks, Dools!

    From Jimmy Smith ('62 / '63) of VA - 02/06/14 - "OLD CANS .... (#2 in a Series of 15)":

  OLD CANS!

He used to go to all the public functions...especially the picture theaters. And he always carried a sugar bag to collect empty bottles and cans. His name was... Albert (Tapper) Torney.

Everyone thought he was a bit eccentric and kids would tease and hassle him. Then it was discovered that he sold the empty bottles but only some of the cans.

After he died in 1998 (aged 86) his large collection of model cars made from aluminum cans was discovered.

This goes to prove..."you shouldn't judge a book by its cover" - or a sculptor by his sugar bag. Some of his collection ---- AMAZING!

   WOWZERS! Thanks, Jimmy!

From Joan Lauterbach Krause ('60) of VA - 02/10/14 - "Maxine on cold weather (#2 in a Series of 12)":

The Battle Hymn of the Republic

- Julia Ward Howe

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps
His day is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnish`d rows of steel,
"As ye deal with my contemners, So with you my grace shall deal;"
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel
Since God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
His truth is marching on.
