J. E. B. Stuart's 181st Birthday

He was superbly mounted and his side arms gleamed in the morning sun like burnished silver.  A long black ostrich plume
waved gracefully from a black slouch hat cocked up on one side, held with a golden clasp.....  He is the prettiest and most
graceful rider I ever saw.  I could not help but notice with what natural ease and comely elegance he sat his steed as it
bounded over the field..... He and his horse appeared to be one and the same machine.

- George Neese of Maj. Gen. James Ewell Brown Stuart, C. S. A.
(06 Feb 1833 - 12 May 1864), June 1863

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

Because I so adore Jeb Stuart, today's theme repeats each year.

Carol

Another of Newport News Shipbuilding's historic ships goes to the scrapyard. See the links below:

Charles Schneider (60)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Forrestal_(CV-59): In October 2013, it was announced the Forrestal had been sold for a penny and would be scrapped in Brownsville, Texas.[13][19] She left the Philadelphia Naval Yard via a team of tugboats at 5:00AM on 4 February 2014.[20]

Oh, Charles, NO! What a tragedy! So many of us were there when she was christened - plus some of us before then as well as a few afterward! How very sad to contemplate this heartbreaking ending.

==========================

My wife, a registered nurse, once fussed over every pain or mishap that came my way. Recently, however, I got an indication that the honeymoon is over.

I was about to fix the attic fan, and as I lifted myself from the ladder in the attic, I scratched my forehead on a crossbeam.

Crawling along, I picked up splinters in both hands, and I cut one hand replacing the fan belt.

On the way down the ladder, I missed the last two rungs and twisted my ankle.

When I limped into the kitchen, covered in dust and blood, my wife took one look and said, "Are those your good pants?"

Crowd Control

A rookie police officer was assigned to ride in a cruiser with an experienced partner. A call came over the car's radio telling them to disperse some people who were loitering.

The officers drove to the street and observed a small crowd standing on a corner. The rookie rolled down his window and said, "Let's get off the corner."

No one moved, so he barked again, "Let's get off the corner!"

Intimidated, the group of people began to leave, casting puzzled glances in his direction.

Proud of his first official act, the young policeman turned to his partner and asked, "Well, how did I do?"

"Pretty good," replied the veteran, "especially since this was a bus stop."

Handy Hints

Hint 1:

To remove grease-stains from material, work in a small amount of polyunsaturated margarine, then wash out with soap and water. Use the same method for removing grease from hands.

Apply some hand cream or lotion afterwards to replenish skin moisture.

_________________________________________________

Hint 2: Fridges and freezers

To keep them smelling fresh, sprinkle a few drops of vanilla extract onto a damp cloth and wipe the interior walls and shelves.

To dispel odors, place a small container of baking soda inside the fridge.

   Thanks, Shari!
