Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
It's a little known fact that I'm almost as big a Marty Robbins fan as I am of Frank Sinatra. Shhhh. It'll be our secret. Yes, I know this is really a Bobby Darin song. Don't confuse my "mind" with facts.
BONUS - Eighteen Yellow Roses - Marty Robbins
|... In 1962, Darin began to write and sing country music, with hit songs including "Things" (US #3/UK #2) (1962), "You're the Reason I'm Living" (US #3), and "18 Yellow Roses" (US #10). The latter two were recorded by Capitol Records, which he joined in 1962, before returning to Atlantic four years later. In 1966, he had his final UK hit single, with a version of Tim Hardin's "If I Were A Carpenter", which peaked at # 9. He performed the opening and closing songs on the soundtrack of the 1965 Walt Disney film That Darn Cat!. "Things" was sung by Dean Martin in the 1967 TV special Movin' With Nancy, starring Nancy Sinatra....|

From My Husband, Paul Harty (Bardolph HS, IL - '61) of NC - 01/28/17 - "Italian Auction":
|This is something to see. YOU REALLY DO HAVE
TO WATCH THE VIDEO. Italian Auction - only 44 seconds! You don't have to
understand Italian to follow the auctioneer:
A Chinese Ming Vase is up for auction. The bidding opens at a half-million Euros. Bidding is brisk and each bidder is clearly identified as each raises the bid by 100,000 Euros. (The exchange rate at auction time was 1 Euro =$1.12.) .
Within seconds, the bid stalls at one million Euros, and the gasp from the crowd identifies the excitement that prevails in the room. The successful bidder is the last one who bid one million, and the auctioneer counts down the bid, "Going once, going twice, and sold to the gentleman sitting in front of me for one million Euros."
Note the excitement on the auctioneer's face after the final bid:
Oh, NOOO! Thanks, Haul Party! (I think I'm a-gonna be sick...)

|A businessman had a tiring day on the road. He
checked into a hotel and, because he was concerned that the dining room
might close soon, left his luggage at the front desk and went
immediately to eat.
After a leisurely dinner, he reclaimed his luggage and realized that he had forgotten his room number. He went back to the desk and told the clerk on duty, "My name is Henry Davis, can you please tell me what room I am in?"
"Certainly," said the clerk. "You're in the lobby."

Eighteen yellow roses came today....
Eighteen yellow roses in a pretty bouquet
When the boy came to the door
I didn't know what to say....
But eighteen yellow roses came today.
I opened up the card to see what it said...
I couldn't believe my eyes
When I had read....
Though you belong to another, I love you anyway.
Yes. eighteen yellow roses came today
I never doubted your love for a minute
I always thought that you would be true
But now this box and the flowers in it
I guess there's nothin' left for me to do.....
But ask to meet the boy that's done this thing
And find out if he's got plans to buy you a ring
'Cause eighteen yellow roses will wilt and die one day....
But a father's love will never fade away...
Will never fade away..............
