Dear Friends and Schoolmates,   

    We have another sad Memorial Edition of the NNHS Newsletter this Saturday morning.  Ruth Brown Smithmother of   Marcia Smith Lebos ('60) of GA and    Bobbie Smith Horwitz ('65) of TX, passed away suddenly in Savannah, Georgia on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the age of 96.  May her memory be for a blessing always.

      Ruth Brown Smith  

SAVANNAH, GA. - Ruth B. Smith, age 96, a resident of Savannah, Ga., since 1998, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, in Savannah, Ga.

She was born June 11, 1915, in Norfolk, Va., to the late Annie and Nathan Brown and was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Smith in 1998; and sister, Edell Gabel in 1994.

She was a former resident of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Hampton, Va., where she was a longtime member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue. She was active in National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah. She was known for being a wonderful lady with a beautiful, sparkling smile for everyone. What she most enjoyed were the regular trips she and her best travel buddy, her beloved Herman, took, visiting more than 120 countries.

She is survived by her two devoted children, Marcia Lebos (Harvey) of Savannah, Ga., and Barbara (Ken) Horwitz of Dallas, Texas; four loving grandchildren, Mark Lebos (Jessica) and David Lebos, of Savannah, Ga., Seth Horwitz (Lily) of Dallas, Texas, and Lisa Horwitz of Sunnyside, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Abraham and Liberty Lebos and Evan Horwitz; sister, Lorraine Brody of Greenville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at the Jewish Cemetery of the Virginia Peninsula, on Kecoughtan Road in Hampton, at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions in Ruth's memory be made to the America.

Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
