             Nell Lindley Tissiere

NEWPORT NEWS - Nell Lindley Tissiere of Newport News, 87, passed away on January 18, 2016.

Nell was born in Statesville, NC on August 26, 1928 to the late Ila Mae Lindley and John Turner Lindley.

Nell graduated from Newport News High School and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding after 30 years of service. After her retirement she pursued a second career, joining Mary Kay Cosmetics. Her success at Mary Kay led her to become a Director, where she loved her Mary Kay friends and family.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Edward H. Tissiere, Jr. who passed away on June 25, 2015.

Nell and Ed met while she was still in school. She waited for Ed to get out of the Navy, while he waited for her to graduate from high school so they could begin their life together.

Nell was also preceded in death by all of her siblings, Myrtle Bowers, Pauline Browning, Lucille Bolick, John Lindley, Charles Lindley, and Ann Palmentera.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Justice (Frank) of Manteo, NC; her son, Edward H. Tissiere, III (Joyce) of Williamsburg, VA; three grandchildren, Johnny Justice, III, Amy Tissiere, and Dawn Tissiere Cyphers; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be private. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering to honor Nell and Ed at a later date. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the kind and caring staff of St. Francis Nursing Center, who loved and cared for Mom in her final days.

Shall We Gather at the River

Words and Music by Rev. Robert Lowry (1826-1899)

 Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod;
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?

Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.

On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will walk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.

Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.

Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
