Dear Friends and Schoolmates,  

   We have more sad news this Wednesday. 
    Mary Patrick Halstead, Class of 1959, wife of   Bernie Halstead ('62) of VA, and sister of Debra Patrick Corey of VA and William Patrick of VA, passed away in Newport News on Monday, January 21, 2012 at the age of 72.

NEWPORT NEWS - Mary P. Halstead, 72, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013.

Born in Staunton, VA, she had been a Newport News resident since 1950. Mary was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. She graduated in 1959 from Newport News High School and retired from the Hampton School Board.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard J. Halstead, Sr.; a sister, Debra P. Corey (Ray) and a brother, William E. Patrick all of Newport News; son Daryl W. Smith and step-son Bernard J. Halstead, Jr. both of Newport News; step-daughter Christine M. Marquard (Richie) of York County; five grandchildren, Heather L. Brant (Kevin) and Shawn W. Smith all of Burlington, NC, Crystal S., Vanessa A. and Cassie N. Marquard, all of York County; five great-grandchildren, Haley, Trevor, Hayden, Addison and Shawn Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special great-great niece, Katelynn Benton.

 

 
 
 


Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 PM Thursday, January 24, 2013 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, January 25, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Patton officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Please leave condolences at www.wjsmithandsonfh.com. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. I send my sincere sympathy to the Halstead family and the loved ones who are so sad with Mrs. Halstead's passing. God bless each of you with strength and faith and His grace and peace.
