Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

 
   We have even more sad news today. Henry Smith, Class of 1953, passed away in Yorktown on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the age of 83.

    YORKTOWN - Henry R. Smith, Jr. 83, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

He was a lifelong peninsula resident, and was the only child of Minnie A. Marsh and Henry R. Smith Sr.

He was a graduate of Newport News High School, served a tour in the U.S. Army, and retired from the C&O Railroad in 1995.

He was a member of Bremond Masonic Lodge and a former member of both the Scottish Rite and Khedive Shrine Club.

He was an avid Redskins, Yankees and Orioles fan; but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his daughter, especially attending William and Mary Tribe basketball and football games.

  Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Patricia Ann Hickman Smith; their daughter, Amy Lee Smith and her husband, Stuart Blau; his brothers-in-law and their wives, William G. and Linda Hickman, David L. and Heidi Hickman, and Gary P. and Hope Hickman; his devoted canine companions, Tiffany, Halle, Minnie and Charms; and many honorary and extended family members.

Many thanks to the amazing staff at Bon Secours St. Francis Nursing Center for the excellent care and compassion extended to our family.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Friday, January 19, 2018 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel.

A private graveside service will be held in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
