Chapel of Love

“Strike an average between what a woman thinks of her husband
a month before she marries him and what she thinks of him
a year afterward, and you will have the truth about him.

- H. L. Mencken, A Book of Burlesques, 1916
(12 Sept 1880 - 29 Jan 1956)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

For some reason I was thinking today's theme song was written about eight years earlier than it was. My mind plays funny tricks on me from time to time!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapel_of_Love:

"Chapel of Love" is a song written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector, and made famous by The Dixie Cups in 1964, spending three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. There have also been many other versions of this song. This was also the debut release of the new Red Bird Records run by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller along with George Goldner.

The song tells of the happiness and excitement the narrator feels on her wedding day, for she and her love are going to the "chapel of love", and "we'll never be lonely anymore." Previously recorded by The Ronettes and The Blossoms, the definitive version of the song was recorded by The Dixie Cups in 1964. The first recorded version was done by Darlene Love in April 1963.

The song was ranked #279 on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, being the group's only song on the list.

From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) of VA - 01/10/15 - RE: Five More NNHS Newsletters Announcement:

Hey!! I was clicking on John Clark obit and got Elvis!!

S.

YOWZERONI! Thank you, Sarah Sugah! This is the second time in 2015 this faulty linking has happened, and we're not even two weeks into the New Year! The problem lies in the way those odious announcements are sent.

My mailing list consists of eight batches, each containing about 75 names. What goes to the first batch is then recopied and sent to the other seven batches. This takes anywhere from ten to twelve minutes each day. If the first announcement is correct, the other seven will follow suit - and the reverse is equally true. The sad truth is I have no way of checking those links in advance. Once the announcements go, they're gone, never to be recalled or amended, nor am I able to correct them for 24 hours.

As some issue with the linking has obviously arisen which I cannot identify in advance nor correct, from henceforth we will have a new announcement procedure.

Each announcement will contain the main link with a note of what to seek. For instance, this one would probably say:

BONUS LOVE KNOT CROCHET PATTERN:

http://www.joyfulabode.com/solomons-knot-shawl/ - Emily Chappelle's Solomon’s Knot Shawl - "The Solomon’s Knot Shawl is definitely my most popular pattern. There aren’t that many patterns out there that use this stitch, but it’s a shame… the Solomon’s Knot stitch (aka True Lover’s Knot Stitch, Hail Stone Stitch, or Love Knot Stitch) is beautiful and a great way to show off special yarn."

FINALLY:

From http://www.ajokeaday.com - 01/10/12:

A salesman telephoned a household, and a four-year-old answered.

Salesman: May I speak to your mother?

Child: She is not here.

Salesman: Well, is anyone else there?

Child: My sister.

Salesman: O.K., fine. May I speak to her?

Child: I guess so.

There was a long silence on the other phone. Then:

Child: Hello?

Salesman: It’s you. I thought you were going to call your sister.

Child: I did. The trouble is, I can’t get her out of the playpen.

Chapel of Love

Music and lyrics by
Jeff Barry
(b. 03 Apr 1938), Ellie Greenwich (23 Oct 1940 – 26 Aug 2009) and Phil Spector (b. 26 Dec 1939)

Recorded by
The Dixie Cups, 1964

Spring is here
The sky is blue
(whoa-whoa-whoa)
Birds all sing
As if they knew
Today's the day
We'll say I do
And we'll never be lonely anymore
Because we're

Goin' to the chapel and we're
Gonna get married
Goin' to the chapel and we're
Gonna get married
Gee, I really love you and we're
Gonna get married
Goin' to the chapel of love

Bells will ring
The sun will shine
(whoa-whoa-whoa)
I'll be his and
He'll be mine
We'll love until
The end of time
And we'll never be lonely anymore
Because we're

Goin' to the chapel and we're
Gonna get married
Goin' to the chapel and we're
Gonna get married
Gee, I really love you and we're
Gonna get married
Goin' to the chapel of love
