Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
 There is more sad news today.  Billy Hilling, Class of 1946, brother of Clarence Hilling ('53) of VA, Charlie Hilling ('56) of FL, and   The Best All-Around Boy in the Class of 1962, Bobby Hilling of VA, passed away at home in Hampton on Tuesday, January 02, 2018.

   He was preceded in death by two of his siblings, The President of the Student Body of June 1944, Harry Hilling (d. 07 Dec 1997), and Mary Jane Hilling Carter (February '49) (d. 18 Sept 2001).

                  John W. (Billy) Hilling
      HAMPTON, VA - John W. (Billy) Hilling passed away January 2, 2018, at home peacefully with his family present.

He cherished his family and was a loving and devoted husband and father who was deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and children, Tommy, Barbara (Tim), Elizabeth, and John, Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian, Jonathan, Michelle, and Christy; two great-grandsons; and brothers Clarence, Charlie, and Robert.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry, Sr., mother, Catherine, brother, Harry, Jr., and sister, Mary Jane. He retired after 37 years with C&P Telephone Company.

Billy Hilling

Visitation will be Monday, 6:00-7:30 pm at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, 11:00 am at Parklawn-Wood Cemetery, conducted by Rev Frank Earwood. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at

When someone you love becomes a memory, it becomes a treasure in your heart forever. May these treasured memories fill your heart with love and bring you peace. God will give you strength to get you through this difficult time.
