Epiphany - Kings from the Orient

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.”

- Matthew 2: 1-10

  From Judy Phillips Allen ('66) of VA - 01/04/11 - "Leroy The Redneck Reindeer ":

I did not hear anything on the news about this, but did you know that Rudolph has been ill?  He could not lead the sleigh this year and a cousin took over for him.  Wow!  I think he is from Roanoke, Va. or somewhere out that way.  Anyway, enjoy the report.  I did!

  From Eva Ellis Madagan ('61) of FL - 01/05/11 - "Red Skelton - 42 years ago. This is amazing.":

IN GOD WE TRUST

A skit from one of Red Skelton's 1969 T.V. shows... WOW.....just think about it, he said this on his T.V. show in 1969 & had no clue his words would ever come to fruition.   SAD, isn't it?  What a wonderful and worthwhile clip to watch and share with all your friends and acquaintances!

This is one that needs to be passed on to everyone. The goal is 2,500,000 viewers. It should be 300 million.

   AMEN! Thank you so much, Eva!

  From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) of VA - 01/04/11:

A prayer is never lost.

This is neat!

Each and everyone one of us is going through tough times right now, but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can. Keep the faith.

My instructions were to pick four people that I wanted God to bless, and I picked you. Please pass this to at least (4) people you want to be blessed and a copy back to me.

This prayer is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts we receive.

There is no cost but a lot of rewards. Let's continue to pray for one another.

The prayer:

Father, I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those that I care deeply for, who are reading this right now. Show them a new revelation of your love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence through your grace. Where there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings. In Jesus' precious name. Amen.

(If the Lord lays upon your heart to send this to more than four people, you are truly blessed.)

   Thank you so much, Norris Sweetie! You and I both are greatly blessed!

Kings from the Orient

Kings from the Orient, Magi royal,
Called by the star to that blest door.
Here 'tis your God claims homage loyal;
Hasten your Savior to adore;
Give Him your love for evermore.

In that dark grotto, lowly, lonely,
Glowing, your lamp of Faith shines bright.
Through mystic shadows see Him only,
God and your King from realms of light;
Glory divine from Heaven's height.

Humble though great, ye Kings adore Him,
Magi, your treasures yield straight way;
Tenderly lay your gifts before Him;
God, incense, myrrh, your debt to pay;
Offer your hearts without delay.

God for the King of kings Supernal,
Myrrh for His dear Humanity,
Incense for God, divine, eternal;
O Holy Magi, you have known
Reason profound for Faith you own.

Jesus, dear Lord, our hearts we bring you;
Take them unworthy though they be.
Grant in return the pray'r we sing you;
That with the Magi's Faith in Thee,
Bright star of hope and love we see.
