“Come back to me in dreams; that I may give
Pulse for pulse, breath for breath:
Speak low, lean low,
As long ago, my love, how long ago.”

Christina Rossetti
(05 Dec 1830 - 29 Dec 1894)

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,

I love golden oldies - such as this one from 1962!

BONUS - Remember Then - Larry Chance and the Earls, 1962

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Chance_and_the_Earls

Larry Chance and the Earls were a popular recording group from the 1960s formed in The Bronx, New York. In 1962, their single "Remember Then" was a hit, and "Life Is But a Dream," "Never" and "I Believe" also charted. As the oldies revival scene started a strong run in the early 1970s and 1980s, the Earls became one of the most requested groups in the doo-wop genre. They are still actively performing and remain on the oldies circuit...

The Earls are one of the New York City doo-wop success stories. Discovered singing on the street corner in front of subway station, the Earls took the original black doo-wop street corner harmony sound, and refined and expanded it for new audiences.

Larry Chance was the driving force behind the group's formation and success. Larry grew up in Philadelphia and attended high school with Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, and Danny Rapp of Danny and the Juniors. But it was not until 1957 that he moved with his parents to the Bronx after high school, that his musical career took off...

Do not know if you know, but Mike Embler posted a note on Facebook that his older brother Charles Embler passed away this morning.

Charles was in NNHS Class of 1965.

2.  From Rick Harman ('65) of VA - 01/05/18, 10:55 AM - " Sandy Hobbs ('65)":

Hi Carol

Just picked this off FB this morning. You remember Sandy Hobbs? Apparently she just passed away. No other information at this time.

Thank you for all you have done and are doing, Carol. God Bless you.

Rick

OH, NOOO! Thank you, Gentlemen! This is almost more than I can bear at one time. Charles was in several of my classes at NNHS and was a good friend of mine, and Sandy and I were at Magruder School together; we were even in the same Brownie troop.

I've added them to the 1965 In Memoriam page, and will await publication of their obituaries. My deepest sympathies to their loved ones.

HEALTH UPDATE:

From My #2 Son, Brent Harty (Hillsboro HS, IL - '90) of NC - 01/03/18, 6:45 PM - " Laura Adams Harty (Cardston HS, Alberta - '95) of NC":

Thanks for adding Laura to the NNHS prayer roll. She needs more rest; nothing much more to do for a moderate to severe concussion. She is grounded by the doctor for another week.

Thank you, Brent! I suggest you take some ropes and tie her down in that bed with guards posted at her door. She's indicated to me that she "might" still be overdoing it.

PAGE HITS:

Hit # 166,666 was made by Peyton Clark ('68) of NC on Thursday, January 04, 2018 at 12:34 AM:

From Peyton Clark ('68) of NC - 01/04/18, 12:38 AM - "Not a winning number":

Happy New Year, Carol. I hope everyone is well.

I just went to the website and saw that I was visitor # 166666. Now, I know that does not count for the prizes, but I thought it was an interesting number. Aside from the infamous chain of sixes, it matches the musical notes above it. Assuming it is in treble clef, and the D is the tonic note of the scale, then the B is the sixth note; so D-B-B-B-B-B does indeed match 166666.

Well, Honey, there are winners and there are winners, and this is certainly a winner in my book! Thank you, Peyton! If you'll send me your mailing address, when this hideous cold weather improves, I just might send you a hand-crocheted prize.

Aw, c'mon, y'all, stop that insane laughter! It could happen!

From My Friend, Jon, of MO - 01/02/15:

“I am so thoroughly convinced that if we don’t set goals in our life and learn how to master the techniques of living to reach our goals, we can reach a ripe old age and look back on our life only to see that we reached but a small part of our full potential. When one learns to master the principles of setting a goal, he will then be able to make a great difference in the results he attains in this life.”

- M. Russell Ballard
(b. 08 Oct 1928)

    Thanks so much, Jon!

Remember Then

Written by Beverly Ross, Tony Powers and Stan Vincent

Recorded by Larry Chance and The Earls, 1962

[Backups:]
Re-mem-mem, re-mem-mem-mem-ber oop-shoop
Re-mem-mem, re-mem-mem-mem-ber oop-shoop
Re-mem-mem, re-mem-mem-mem-ber oop-shoop then
Then, remember then

[Mixture]
[Backups continue with intro while lead sings a series of "whoa oh-oh's" and a "Remember then"]

That night we fell in love
Beneath the stars above
That was a lovely summer night
pyramid Remember then, then, then, then, then

[Mixture again]

Summer's over
Our love is over
To lose that love was such a sin
pyramid Remember then, then, then, then, then

[Backups:] Remember, re-mem-mem, mem-mem-mem-mem-ber
[Lead:] Our love is in the past
[Backups:] patta-past
[Lead:] Oh, has it gone so fast
[Backups:] patta-past
[Lead:] Why couldn't our love last?
[Backups:] Can't last
[Backups:] Wop, wop, patta patta pop-pop, shoo-wop-dah bop bop, ooh

I'm broken-hearted now
Since we have parted now
My mind wanders now and then
pyramid Remember then, then, then, then, then

[Backups:] Re-mem-mem, re-mem-mem-mem-ber
[Mixture again]

[New mixture Backups sing several "oop shoop, shang-a lang, jigga bop's"
and the lead does "ahh-ooh-ooh" and other falsetto variations]

[Fade]
