THIS DAY IN WWII:

January 03, 1944 - Top Ace Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington was shot down in his Corsair by Captain Masajiro Kawato flying a Zero.

January 03, 1945 - U.S. General Douglas MacArthur was placed in command of all U.S. ground forces and U.S. Admiral Chester W Nimitz was placed in command of all U.S. Naval forces. This event effectively ended the concept of unified commands.

From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) of VA - 01/02/10 - "So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.":

It's simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward.

This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

FINALLY:

From ArcaMax Jokes - 01/02/09:

In Uniform

My husband wore his Army uniform with pride. One day, coming home from the base and dressed in olive drab fatigues, he stopped off at the grocery store to pick up a few things.

While in line at the check out counter, he noticed a little boy standing with his mother. The boy took one look at my husband in his uniform, and his eyes grew wide. My husband in turn gave the young man a crisp salute. The boy was so excited. He pointed at my husband and announced," LOOK , MOM, A GIANT BOY SCOUT."

For the First Time

Written by James Newton Howard, Allan Dennis Rich and Jud Friedman for One Fine Day (1996)

Recorded by Kenny Loggins, 1997
(b. 07 Jan 1948)

Are those your eyes, is that your smile
I've been lookin' at you forever
But I never saw you before
Are these your hands holdin' mine
Now I wonder how I could of been so blind

For the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...

Can this be real, can this be true
Am I the person I was this morning
And are you the same you
It's all so strange how can it be
All along this love was right in front of me

For the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
I can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...

Such a long time ago
I had given up on findin' this emotion...
Ever again
But you live with me now
Yes I've found you some how
And I've never been so sure

And for the first time I am looking in your eyes
For the first time I'm seein' who you are
Can't believe how much I see
When you're lookin' back at me
Now I understand why love is...
Love is... for the first time...
